DUMAGUETE CITY, Feb 1 Asia Pulse - Negros Oriental province reaped bumper harvests of major staple and high value crops including palay, corn, mangos and cut flowers in 2000, said governor George P. Arnaiz .
Arnaiz said that the positive development was the result of his administration's strengthening and enhancement of the province's agricultural base to ensure its food security program.
The governor said that palay harvest rose to a record high of 71,413 metric tons, or 14.9 per cent higher than that of last year which was only 62.107 metric tons.
Corn produce went up by 4.4 per cent, or 55,766 metric tons in 2000, compared to that in 1999 which was 53,434 metric tons.
