PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT TOLD COUNTRY REGAINS INVESTORS' CONFIDENCE

MANILA - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was informed Wednesday by former President Fidel V. Ramos that her assumption to the presidency has raised investors' confidence in the Philippines.

In a courtesy call in Malacanang, the former president reported to President Macapagal-Arroyo that the recent "People Power II" and the peaceful transfer of power in the Philippines became a special focus of interest among the participants in the recently-concluded World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.

JAPAN'S REVISED GDP EXPECTED TO SHOW NEGATIVE GROWTH

TOKYO - The Cabinet Office said Thursday it will release on Feb. 8 revised gross domestic product figures for the July-September quarter.

A preliminary report released in December showed that real GDP grew 1.0 per cent on an annualized basis.
