TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Eastern Broadband Telecom* (EBT) has selected the Shasta* 5000 Broadband Service Node (BSN) from Nortel Networks* [NYSE/TSE: NT] to enable delivery of value-added, revenue-generating IP (Internet Protocol) services, including broadband access to the high-performance Internet, network-based firewalls and business-class Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).

EBT has purchased Nortel Networks Shasta 5000 BSN through Taihong Technology Co. Ltd., a local Nortel Networks distributor.

All four Taiwan fixed service providers have now selected Nortel Networks Shasta 5000 BSN. This includes incumbent Chunghwa Telecom and three new operators - EBT, New Century InfoComm and Taiwan Fixed Network - awarded licenses when Taiwan deregulated its fixed telecom networks in March 2000.
