For 2001, they've been redesigned. The wagon is still called V70, but the sedan has been recast as a sports sedan and rechristened the S60. It's now 5 inches shorter (112 inches shorter at the wheelbase) than the wagon and it looks more coupelike, evoking Volvo's flagship S80 sedan. Of the three S60 versions offered, we're testing a midtrim 197-hp 2.4T, which has a sticker price of about $35,000.
In the past, the car's major weak point has been a hard ride. Our initial impressions are that the new S60's ride has improved only slightly.
The S60 does not yet offer an all-wheel-drive version, which puts Volvo behind its Audi, BMW, and Volkswagen competitors.
