`Look for Mario Lemieux to continue his everything-I-touch-turns-to-gold streak. Don't be surprised if you see another Stanley Cup in Pittsburgh this year. It's almost in the script.'

Second thoughts on Sportsmem

* I was shocked to see Shaquille O'Neal's name even mentioned as a candidate for Sportsman of the Year. The article states that you wanted "a positive influence rather than simply a shoe and apparel salesman." The latter is exactly what Shaq is. He doesn't sell clothing, but he is an overpaid salesman, who, in my mind, would never qualify to be named Sportsman of the Year. I can't even believe he was named league MVP.

Leonard Kennedy Casper, Wyo.

* I can see how Marshall Faulk could be your Sportsman of the Year, but Kurt Warner? This guy is a one-year wonder. He sat out five weeks with a broken pinkie and has thrown interception after interception that cost the Rams wins. There are so many other quarterbacks this season who have done so much more than Warner. How about Rich Gannon? He single-handedly has turned the Raiders around and made them into Super Bowl contenders. I don't think the Rams will ever see their names on a Super Bowl program again.
