Fleet Mortgage is under fire in one state for allegedly sharing information about its customers with marketing firms in violation of state consumer protection laws.
The attorney general of Minnesota has filed a lawsuit against Fleet Mortgage Corp. alleging that the company violated the privacy rights of its mortgage servicing customers. The suit accuses the company of sharing customers' home mortgage account numbers and other personal information, such as contact information and details about their mortgage loans, with marketers.
The suit goes on to allege that Fleet participated with these marketing companies in a deceptive telemarketing program aimed at Fleet's mortgage servicing customers. Minnesota attorney general Mike Hatch said Fleet's sharing of the information violated the company's own privacy policy as well as Minnesota consumer protection laws.
In a statement about the lawsuit, the Minnesota attorney general accused Fleet of participating with these marketers "in a deceptive telemarketing program aimed at Fleet's mortgage customers."
