The Sarasota County School Board rejected a charter school application Tuesday night from a group that already runs a charter school in Charlotte County.

The group, Alpha Center Concepts Inc., proposed to open a school for 360 elementary and middle school students who are gifted or talented in certain academic subjects or the arts. Alpha Center Concepts submitted the same application to the Lee County School Board, which approved it in November. The John Dewey Academy is scheduled to open in Lee County in August.
