The workers who've helped keep Chris- Craft's Manatee County plant afloat deserve their final paychecks and should be the top priority during bankruptcy proceedings.

The boat manufacturer's parent company, Outboard Marine Corp., laid off most of its 7,000 employees last month, including about 330 who worked at Chris-Craft's plant on 15th Street East near Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport. OMC, based in Illinois, has filed for Chapter 11 protection from its creditors and is seeking a buyer for Chris-Craft, a 127-year-old boat-maker, and eight other divisions.
