Rae Konjoian wants teen parents to feel comfortable goofing around with their kids.

A $300 grant from the Arts & Humanities Council of Charlotte County, she figures, will buy enough musical instruments for babies and toddlers to loosen up their parents. Gather the families and instruments together for a two-hour seminar, she says, and everyone will bond.

"Children of adolescents tend not to get the stimulation that more mature parents provide for their children," said Konjoian, who teaches in the Healthy Outcomes in Pregnancy and Education program at The Academy@Charlotte Vo-Tech. "Teen-agers feel silly singing and making faces."
