SEOUL, Jan 2 Asia Pulse - Korean shipping firms are estimated to have had record sales last year, industry sources said Tuesday.

Topping the list is Hyundai Merchant Marine, with estimated sales of 5.1 trillion won (US$4 billion) last year, up 5.5 percent from the previous year. Hyundai is the first Korean shipping firm to top 5 trillion won in sales.

The company attributes the brisk performance to a surge in its automobile exports and a bullish oil tanker market.
