SEOUL, Jan 2 Asia Pulse - The Korean shipbuilding industry enjoyed a record boom last year, but much of the earnings were eroded by losses from funding support for affiliates, industry sources said Tuesday.

Hyundai Heavy Industries (KSE:09540) received orders of US$5.1 billion, up from $3.4 billion in 1998, and Samsung Heavy Industries (KSE:10140) registered 4 billion from January through November last year, up 82 percent from $2.2 billion in 1998.

Daewoo Heavy Industries, despite its workout, more than doubled its 1998 performance to $3.7 billion.

The income revenue of Hyundai Heavy Industries, however, fell short of 100 billion won because the company sustained losses of about 200 billion won by selling its ...
