TEHRAN, Jan 2 Asia Pulse - Iran will generate some 150 billion kilowatt/hours (kw/h) of electricity by the end of the Third Development Plan (2000-2005) which has set the optimal use of energy as one of its targets, announced the deputy energy minister and head of the Power Generation and Distribution Company (Tavanir), Mohammad Mallaki here Sunday.
He said it is predicted that the power generation capacity in Iran will increase by 6.5 percent during the period while consumption will go up by 7.5 percent.
Last week, it was announced that the construction of five new power plants was being considered in a year to late June 2001 and a part of the power generation sector will be turned over to the private sector.
The power plants will be constructed in Tehran, Khuzestan and Khorasan provinces and once completed they would add some 1,250 megawatts of electricity to the national power grid. Several other hydro- or ...
