TEHRAN, Jan 2 Asia Pulse - Some 10,000 employees with the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) are close to losing their jobs as the body faces a sharp budget deficit, press reported Saturday.
"Last week, part of the IRIB's credits were declined which will result in adverse effects on production sector," the daily Resaalat quoted an MP as saying.
The unnamed MP said that the IRIB needs sufficient credits to be able to have better products.
He said that unemployment is turning into a crisis and that the MPs would not be content with making thousands jobless.
He noted that IRIB programs are the only entertainment for those living in deprived regions and villages.
The country is bidding hard to create jobs for over three million unemployed in accordance with the provisions of the third five-year economic development plan (March 2000-March 2005).
The Iranian population, estimated at 62 million, is one of the world's youngest, with 35 million people under the age of 20.
