CEBU CITY, Jan 2 Asia Pulse - The export sector in Central Visayas fared better in the first 11 months of last year than this year.
According to the Department of Trade and Industry records, total exports in the region as of last November amounted to US$2.1 billion, or some 14 percent less than the region's $2.4 billion revenues in the same period last year.
This represents a reversal of the growth trend noted in the first half of the year.
The export sector performed well in the first semester of this year with $1.291 billion in revenues, 12 percent higher than the $1.147-billion recorded in the same six-month period in 1999.
Central Visayas exported $2.11 billion in the first 11 months of 1998.
Cebu typically accounts for 80 percent of the region's exports. The Mactan Export Processing Zone 1, on the other hand, traditionally makes up some 60 percent of Cebu exports.
