My unabridged dictionary defines a "chanteuse" as a French word for a "female singer, esp. one who sings in nightclubs and cabarets." Nowhere does it mention the name of Liane Augustin, but it should. She personifies the definition of a chanteuse more than anyone I can think of. On this Vanguard disc from 1962, she sings 14 songs, mostly in French, all about love, all of them lovely.

Among the songs one would probably recognize immediately are "Fascination," "Oui oui oui oui," "Midnight ...
