Orff, Carl: Carmina Burana. Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal, conducted by Charles Dutoit. Recorded in 1996, at the Eglise Saint-Eustache, Montreal. Engineers: John Dunkerly and Jonathan Stokes. 59+ minutes. London 455 290. This is a very effective technical effort. It is a bit more forward and clear-sounding than Telarc 80056 (recorded in 1980), with a bit more bass drum fullness, although the Telarc drum goes a bit deeper and its soundstage spread, dynamic contrasts, and orchestral/soloist perspective were a bit more workable.
