Brava. (Transcriptions for clarinet from works by Rachmaninoff, Schubert, Elgar, Bassi, and Lovreglio.) Seunghee Lee, clarinet; Arlene Shrut, piano. Recorded in 1999, at St. Peter's Church, New York City. Engineer: Mark Aubort. 60+ minutes. Summit 276. The soundstage here is very close-up in perspective, with the resulting clean and well-delineated sound. While the perspective is what you would get from a front-row, or near-front-row seat (the piano is properly sized, with the clarinet just a bit to the left), the church ambiance also shines through, and gives the sound a really warm, enveloping feel.
