Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade; Russian Easter Overture; Debussy: La Mer. Erich Leinsdorf, Los Angeles Concert Arts Symphony and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestras. EMI 7243 5 67314 2 4.
EMI forge merrily on with their FDS, Full Dimensional Sound, series of old remasters from the '50s and '60s. The LA orchestras listed above play capably but are rather thin in tone and light in weight.
Is it the sound EMI was so enamored of that they remastered these particular recordings? It is very fine, indeed, but not exceptional. ...
