LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa., July 31 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ -- Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD) and its Taiwanese joint venture partner, San Fu Chemical Co., Ltd., have been awarded a long term contract to supply AU Optronics Corporation's flat-panel display fab in Lung Tan City, Taiwan with on-site nitrogen and other bulk gases.
AU Optronics is the newly formed merger company of Acer Display Technology, Inc., an affiliate of the Acer Group, and Unipac Optoelectronics, an affiliate of United Microelectronics Corp. -- the world's second largest chip subcontractor. The company is expected to rank among the top three in the world in terms of capacity for thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) modules.
Located in Taiwan's Aspire Park, AU Optronics' fab will produce 30,000 4.0 generation motherglass units per month when it ramps up this fall. The company's mainstream 15? TFT-LCD devices have applications ranging from notebook and desktop PCs to televisions and industrial displays.
The fab will require 15,000 Nm3/hour of nitrogen which will be supplied via two on-site plants to be brought on-stream in conjunction with the facility's ramp-up. In addition, San Fu will supply AU Optronics with its bulk oxygen, hydrogen, argon and helium requirements.
