TOKYO, Aug 1 Asia Pulse - Sankyo Co. (TSE:4501) said Tuesday that it has begun clinical testing in the U.K. of a new type of drug to treat diabetes.

CS-917 is an oral medication for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, a condition in which insulin is secreted, but does not lower blood sugar. The drug prevents the overproduction of sugar in the liver.
