SEOUL, Aug 1 Asia Pulse - Monthly consumer prices soared 0.2 per cent sequentially in July, bringing to 3.0 per cent the aggregate increase rate for the first seven months this year compared with last year, the National Statistical Office (NSO) said Wednesday.
The government has set this year's inflation target at below 4 per cent.
Vegetable prices jumped 10.6 per cent on-month, contributing to 0.26 percentage point increase in the consumer prices, the NSO said.
Prices of cabbage went up 16.0 per cent, those of lettuce surged 75.2 per cent, pumpkin 43.5 per cent, cucumber 25.1 per cent and radish 8.3 per cent.
The NSO attributes the vegetable price hike to the drought in spring and ensuing downpours in July.
Livestock prices surged 2.4 per cent on-month, monthly housing rentals rose 0.1 per cent and the deposit money for residential rentals jumped 0.5 per cent.
