TAIPEI, Aug 1 Asia Pulse - Intel Corp. President and Chief Executive Officer Craig Barrett said in Taipei Monday that the computer manufacturing industry should come out of the doldrums within the next two to six months.
Barrett, who made the prediction in a speech on "Investing in the Digital World," also said the communications sector's recovery will be delayed due to the sector's high levels of inventory.
While saying that the semiconductor manufacturing industry is facing its worst recession since 1985, Barrett predicted that the market atmosphere will turn for the better next year or the year after.
He said that the computer manufacturing industry will recover earlier because the inventory levels of terminal-related products are effectively under control. As a new school semester is beginning and the pre-Christmas shopping season is approaching, the industry can expect sales to pick up in the third quarter, he added.
He said that with the introduction of the Pentium 4 by Intel and of Windows XP by Microsoft, in addition to other new products by other companies, consumer interest is expected to be stimulated.
