SYDNEY, Aug 1 Asia Pulse - Primus Telecommunications (Australia) Pty Ltd signed up 51,000 new customers in June, the company annonced.
Primus chief executive Ravi Bhatia said the company had benefited directly from the collapse of the Murdoch-Packer backed One.Tel.
The 51,000 additions in June were understood to be around three times the number of new customers signed by Primus in May.
Primus was the only telco to flag interest in One.Tel's mobile, internet and fixed line assets, signalling its interest to become a full network carrier.
Mr Bhatia said the company was awaiting decisions by One.Tel administrators Ferrier and Hodgson and the administrator appointed by One.Tel's major creditor, US-based Lucent Technologies Inc.
"That is a bit of a mishmash, they're working on it, and let us see what comes out of it," he said.
One.Tel went into voluntary administration on May 29 with debts totalling more than $600 million. The collapsed telco was placed into liquidation last week.
