SiteBuilder 3D, a new program from MultiGen-Paradigm, allows users to visualize 2D GIS data in 3D. The software works in conjunction with ESRI's ArcView GIS desktop mapping program. Using data sources such as digital elevation models and contour maps, SiteBuilder creates 3D terrain models that can be draped with maps or high-resolution aerial or satellite imagery. A library of photorealistic 3D models and textures enables users to transform 2D map symbols such as trees and buildings into 3D features. Users can then virtually fly, walk, or drive through the 3D scenes, accessing multiple focal points from any angle or perspective. Features such as clouds, fog, and time of day can be added to the scene for further realism.
