As Congress-and the Reagan Administration attempt to bring the federal deficit under control, Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) officials are wondering what impact federal budget action will have on the bus operation.

While RIPTA officials see more cuts in federal operating assistance as inevitable, they hope the federal government will not cease subsidization of public transit.
