Abstract
Persistence in higher education has been an extensively researched phenomenon. As important as the concept is, however, student persisters are notoriously difficult to identify. In this study, we examined a strand of persistence we called tenacity from the unique perspective of those students who had enrolled in a two-year college after at least one attempt at another institution. Specifically our purpose was to discover how these students understood their own history of college enrollment, as well as their perceptions of themselves as persisters.
