Abstract

With the recent increased emphasis on educational reform, one suggestion is to consider merit pay, or pay for performance programs, for teachers in grades K through 12. While such plans have been implemented, there has been one key element missing--the students' perspective and how it can be brought into the evaluation process. This paper considers the student perspective on the qualities of meritorious teachers and relevant criteria for evaluating them. It argues that students can be used as a vital resource in the evaluation process of determining meritorious teachers.
