Abstract
In our society, responsibility is a valued element of human development and competence. This study explores preadolescents' expectations regarding at what age they should be awarded privileges and responsibilities. The sample was composed of 107 5th and 6th grade students in a K-8 school in the San Francisco Bay Area. Thirty-one percent of subjects were Hispanic, nineteen percent were Vietnamese, nine percent were Cambodian, sixteen percent were Anglo, and twenty-five percent reported "Other" (including, African-American, Asian, and Pacific Islander).
