Abstract
Many colleges are using First-Year seminars to ease the transition to college for high school students and enhance student retention. Each year, both the popular press and academic journals report that an increasing number of colleges and universities use First-Year seminars, student success courses, or "University 101" models. Many topics in First-Year courses are relevant to the business curricula. This paper describes how some issues covered in a generic student success course--personal responsibility, motivation, self-esteem, time management, decision-making, teamwork and communication skills--were adapted to management education.
