Abstract

The purpose of this interpretive research is to examine the beliefs of two high school students concerning their ideal learning environments. The paper contains two student stories and accompanying interpretations addressing the teaching and learning of physics, and the roles of students and the teacher in ideal classrooms. The students want their teacher to build caring relationships with them premised on trust and respect. This is seen as a way to create a warm classroom climate enabling students to engage in rich science conversations with their peers and the teacher during small group activities and discussions.
