THE POLITICS art galleries throughout Australia (and elsewhere) is always complex, but in recent times has developed a particular viciousness. There has always been infighting within the arts, as within the universities, but the politics of the galleries has been the salient feature of public debate in recent years. Public art galleries are those in question, although the commercial art galleries have their own politics, and interact with the public galleries--nowhere more so than in Sydney, where particular commercial galleries clearly influence the policy of the public gallery trustees.
