Hawaii, the fourth smallest state in the United States, is among the top 20 states with the fastest growth in the number of Web domains registered, according to a database accessible to domain registering companies.
"It's No. 18 on the list regarding the rate of growth by state," says Govinda Leopold, CEO of Maui's 1stDomain.net, the only domain registrar in Hawaii. "The rate of growth is 291 percent between July 1998 and January 2000."
That works out to 22,350 registered domains in Hawaii. If the trend has continued since then, there should be about 70,000 now. The slow 2000 economy might have held back new registrations, but it's thought many Asia domains …
