Kauai's economy isn't that different from Oahu's. It's just smaller.
The Garden Isle has fewer than 30,000 jobs, half as many as either Maui or the Big Island and about one-sixteenth as many as Oahu. But the breakdown of jobs by industry is about the same, with lots of service, trade and retail work.
There are some differences. Kauai has more agriculture jobs, though it's still one of the smaller sectors. Hotels, the 10th biggest job sector on Oahu, is fifth biggest on Kauai.
