It will take two men to replace retiring head of officiating Jerry Seeman, the man who has helped instant replay gain greater acceptance around the league

For the last decade, every time an NFL coach or general manager absolutely despised a game-day call and just couldn't live another second without venting, he'd phone the league office and complain to Jerry Seeman. The conversations hardly ever were pleasant. But somehow the upbeat demeanor of Seeman, the NFL's senior director of officiating, never changed.

"We'll look into it and get back to you," he'd say, knowing full well that unless his examination of the call in question revealed a mistake by one ...
