In the four-plus years I have occupied a page inside this monolith of sports journalism, I have received 40 to 50 e-mails from readers each week, which means the time has come for you to go out and get a life.

It's not that these 10,000 correspondences weren't appreciated--quite the opposite, even the ones suggesting I was less nimble-witted than a box of rocks. Indeed, the slings and arrows are part of the job, as one does not write opinion with the expectation of universal approbation.
