Father Rico Nobleza, 32, is a parish priest in Paranaque, Philippines. At around 5 a.m. on July 12th, he was traveling to the nearby neighborhood of Baclaran on a jeepney (a bus converted from a jeep) when Manuel Samson, 49, and his son Christian, 19, boarded the vehicle. The elder Samson sat beside the priest on a front seat, while his son sat in the back.

Manuel Samson threatened Father Nobleza with a knife, demanding his cell phone. The next day's Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted the priest as telling police, "I told him, 'Wait a minute, child, I shall get it from my waist.'" ...
