Grant Noel was at his grandparents' home in Low Moor, Va., when he fell into fame. I'm not talking 15 minutes' worth, either. Noel might be in the spotlight for a while as Michael Vick's replacement at quarterback for Virginia Tech.
Noel didn't plan it this way. Most thought Vick would be back for his junior season. But there was Noel being summoned by his grandfather, who was watching the news. There was something coming on saying Vick was going to announce he was leaving school, his grandfather said.
"I didn't know what to think for a minute," Noel says.
A few minutes later, a TV announcer confirmed his grandfather's words.
"I was thankful for myself, but you hate to see someone like that leave," Noel says. "My teammates want me to come out and do a good job. Some are excited for me, my close friends on the team. No one...
