Countrywide Home Loans will build a new loan servicing center in Lancaster, Calif., that will bring about 500 jobs to this high-desert community on the northern edge of Los Angeles County.
Almost all of the jobs will be new positions needed to keep up with Countrywide's anticipated growth, the company said.
The 102,000 square foot facility will be built in the Lancaster Business Park with a projected opening in the spring of 2002.
Anne McCallion, Countrywide's managing director and chief administrative officer, said the center will offer service and management job opportunities close to home for Lancaster area residents. Currently, some Lancaster residents commute to Countrywide facilities in Calabasas and Simi Valley - some 40 or more miles away.
