VX CAD/CAM Version 5 from VX Corp. (formerly Varimetrix) is the latest incarnation of the company's integrated system for engineers and industrial designers. Among the new capabilities in Version 5 are enhanced interoperability, new healing capabilities, and direct import of files created with Parasolid-based CAD systems (which include Unigraphics, Solid Edge, and SolidWorks), as well as Pro/Engineer and Catia files.

Added class A surfacing features include tools that can handle difficult shapes. For example, users can decide how much "gravity" to apply to problem curves, and thus eliminate unattractive or unmanufacturable deformities. Complex variable fillets are much easier to create now that hundreds of variations in filleting are permitted through a single command.

VX's mold-making suite has also been upgraded, with automatic creation of complex parting lines as well as cooling channels, face vents, and checks for interference with the part, mold cavity, or cooling elements. Access to the CADenas parts library of hardware, assemblies, and mold frames ...
