No one likes taxes, but this one seems to be working out pretty well.

The 1 percent sales tax, which Charlotte County voters imposed on themselves in a 1998 referendum, has bought and is still buying a lot of goodies.

The people are getting parks, roads, a performing arts center, a library, sidewalks and emergency equipment. And, although several temptations have arisen, the county commissioners and their top staff have done a good job trying to deliver as advertised.

At a meeting Tuesday, they reaffirmed their vow to keep on course.
