Remember 1997. The Indians entered the postseason that year with 86 wins, fewest of any American League playoff team. They finished ninth in the league in earned-run average. Yet they came within two outs of winning the World Series.
"That was the worst team we've had (since 1993), by far" Indians assistant general manager Mark Shapiro says. "We were struggling the entire season. We never played up to our potential. But those guys turned it up the second we got in."
