Community Forum is Joint Effort of League of Women
Voters, Point Park College and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
PITTSBURGH, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ --
Community residents can learn about their rights to public documents at a first-of-its-kind forum to be held Saturday, Oct. 13, in downtown Pittsburgh.
"The First Amendment Forum: Your Rights to Public Records" is sponsored by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the League of Women Voters and Point Park College. The community forum is free of charge and open to anyone interested in examining access to public records.
"Anyone who has been denied access to public information, those who wrestle with questions about the availability of information on the Internet, or citizens who want to know how to obtain data that may help meet the goals of their school or community organization can benefit from this session," said Lorraine Branham, assistant to the publisher of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The forum will feature speakers and panel discussions on the public's rights -- and lack of rights -- to various court documents, police data, government records and other information. An optional hands-on workshop on how to obtain public records also will be held.
