Shade is a 3D modeling, rendering, and animation tool from Japan that has been evolving in features and popularity in that country since its inception in 1985. Recently, ExpressionTools, the software's developer, made the product available for English language speakers, to whom it is now available under the name ETShade Pro R4/E.

Because ETShade is new to the English-speaking market, it's difficult to assign it a niche here as yet. In Japan, the product is used for both entertainment and CAD applications. Since ETShade also runs on both Windows and Macintosh operating systems, it's tempting to compare it to autodesssys's formZ solid and surface modeler, at least in terms of versatility.
