Texas-sized ticket giveaway leaves latecomers grounded.

Apparently, everything really is bigger in Texas. Including Vanguard Airlines' 1,000-ticket giveaway in Austin.

Kansas City-based Vanguard, which was in Austin this week to celebrate its inaugural flight on the Austin to Kansas City route, printed too many free tickets. So its 1,000-ticket giveaway became a 1,200-ticket giveaway.

The ticket giveaways are a Vanguard tradition. The airline often trades free tickets for a case of donated food when it begins flights to new cities.

Alan Carr, Vanguard spokesman, said that although there were extra tickets given out, there were still a few people who walked away disappointed. Vanguard gave the 10 to 20 …
