Experience isn't always a prerequisite for leadership, as several rookies have shown during the 2001 baseball season. But in picking the best of the newcomers, many readers eliminate Ichiro Suzuki from the category because of his extensive professional experience in Japan.

That's all sour grapes to Joseph Urquia of Sequim, Wash.

"The only reason anyone would question whether Ichiro Suzuki is a rookie would be to keep this sensational player from receiving the credit that is his--and his alone," Urquia writes.
