Choice voice `Bengals and Bolts 2-0? Yikes! And Titans 0-2? Folks in Cincy and San Diego need to do a little dip-'n'-save with the standings, because when one of them is 3-0 after playing each other, it'll be the last week either squad sniffs first place this season.'--Chris Oestereich, St. Charles, Mo.

Too old? Hardly

Chris Weinke has proved his critics wrong. Ever since coming out of college there have been doubters saying he's too old or not mobile enough to play in the pros, but in his first pro game, he threw for one touchdown and ran for another. He may be old for a rookie, but I'd take that performance over an inexperienced rookie quarterback anytime. He wasn't fazed the whole game against an aggressive Vikings defense. He's worked hard to prove critics wrong and, in my mind, he already has.

A show of leadership

I am 15, and as I was reading THE SPORTING NEWS, Paul Attner's article "The league will go on, so will its grief" (TSN, September 24) really caught my attention. I am glad that there are so many great people in the NFL. I was happy to read that Wellington Mara, who has been associated with the league for a very long time, along with many players, helped the owners of NFL teams to reconsider letting the games be played. I was very pleased to read that the players and associates of the NFL are very caring individuals and would rather help by providing supplies and food than to play a sport that they truly love. Thanks for making people aware of the fact that athletes also are great people.
