The The United Nations conference against racism ended September 7th, after a week of hostility, rancor -- and racism. Officially convened as the World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance (WCRRDXRI, for short!), the week-long summit in Durban, South Africa, was one of the most fractious meetings in the UN's five-decade history. The United States and Israel abandoned the conference midweek and others threatened to walk out as well, due to the intolerance of the official delegations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) dominating the event.
