As 83-year-old Sam J. Calderone lingered in a coma following a devastating stroke, his adult daughters, faced with the question of whether to put him on life support, turned to a computer program called LifePath. They did this for help "in deciding what Dad would want if he could tell us," Marilyn Schwilm told the September 4th New York Times. Although she had signed a document authorizing the hospital to continue feeding her father, "I was questioning [the decision]. Was it the right decision? Was it what Dad would want? We weren't equipped to make those decisions, and the doctors, as good as they were, didn't help us make them."
