It hasn't been easy being Garrison Hearst, whose remarkable return from a serious ankle injury more than two years ago hit a snag Sunday. But he's determined to keep getting up.

A broken ankle, they told him. Back by the next preseason, they told him. So why was he prepping for yet another operation? And what was this the doctor had told him, that they were concerned about the rest of his life, not just his football career? Something about his being able to walk comfortably, maybe jog a little.
