Out of the tunnel: A few years back, Pittsburgh changed its logo and colors, hired a new coach and set a course for changing its direction in the ever-changing college football landscape. Then Walt Harris had to gum up the works.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Pitt: the name the school despises and the name Harris revived with what might be the most absurd postgame comment since Cornwallis mumbled "They don't fight fair" at Yorktown.
After Pitt's inconceivable loss to D-I newbie South Florida, Harris let fly with this jewel: "You've never heard me say that we have arrived."
Last December, Harris pulled his name out of the Ohio State search because he had it better at Pitt. Two weeks into 2001, he has the worst loss in 111 years of Pitt football. Pitt-iful.
Talk the talk: Rumor has it Chris Simms has a list of nonbelievers he is checking off as he grows into expectations. Last week, a few Houston players popped off before the game, saying Simms played "street ball" and that they weren't too concerned about his ability. Simms then threw for 311 yards and three touchdowns.
Others on the to-do list:
* Oklahoma's talented, taunting secondary.
